Something up our sleeves.

I will start with an update about our "experiment". At this point I think we can call it a success, kind of. What I mean is..yes it is working, slowly..so we are not ready to stop at one week. What this experiment has done is change our way of thinking about the amount of time our kids spend doing something constructive together and the amount of time they spend with friends and electronic distractions. We are not going to be quite as strict about enforcing "no friends" and "no electronics", but now it is something we really give a good deal of consideration before we say yes or no to. We take recent activities into account, have they spent much time together lately(not in front of the TV)?...how have they been interacting with each other (kind or competitive)? ect. Basically, what I am saying is, I was right. This past week reinforced what I already believed..the MORE time they spend together the more they will get to know each other and therefore get along better. I would encourage anybody that has the same issue, to try it. It is training not punishment. And how do you know someone has finished their training??? They can do what they have been taught right? So just keep training until they can do it on their own. That's our theory anyway. ;-)

OK...so we have been keeping something up our sleeve for the past few weeks. It looks like we are going to become Foster Parents.

About 6 weeks ago Brooke met a little girl that lives in our neighborhood that is a foster child(we will call her R). Well after some talking with her foster mom, I found out two things ...1, R (age 9) has a sister K (age 6)....and 2, the foster family they are in now has given notice that they will not be fostering any children after June. Well, I just about fell to my knees when I heard that last part. I could not imagine these 2 sweet girls having to move from a home, neighborhood and school that they have just become comfortable in. So after a week or so of praying and talking, Raymond and I decided to see if there was any way we could become their new placement.

Well, after almost 3 weeks of calls and emails, it looks like this may actually happen. I talked to a Social Worker today and she has us set up with a schedule of classes and a boat load of paper work, that leads us all to believe that we could make this happen by the end of June.

We could be a family of 7 by the beginning of July! That is crazy right? I mean, seriously, what are we thinking?
